SGFP Executive Committee

The SGFP Executive Committee is the ultimate governing authority of the Section and makes all major decisions about the direction, positions, and ethics/prudence of the SGFP.

Members of the Executive Committee are elected from each of the 11 Districts of the OMA and 2 Members-at-Large.

I speak Italian so I have many Italian speaking patients.

Dr. Abdulla has three children, Adil is a class actions plaintiff side lawyer, Iman is applying for medical school and Alim is into musical theatre. His partner Tia MacPherson is a professional portrait photographer and Chair of the Patient and Family Advisory Council at Queensway Carleton Hospital. He is a pickleball enthusiast, a ballroom dancer, and a movie buff. He is multi-angular in his interests and pursuits.

On a vocational angle, he is a comprehensive family doctor, palliative, sports, cosmetic and travel medicine consultant working in a FHO. He is assistant professor Department of Family Medicine and Academic Consultant Level 1 Faculty of Nursing at University of Ottawa. He is Lead of the Leadership Development Cirriculum at U Ottawa Undergraduate Medical Education. He was awarded the Family Physician of the Year for Eastern Ontario in 2008 and Award of Excellence from the OCFP/CCFP in 2022. 

On a leadership angle, he is on the OMA General Assembly Steering Committee, is past Chairman of the Section of General and Family Physicians, past President of the Academy of Medicine Ottawa and District 8 Chair. He is on the Ontario Medical Foundation and Bruyere foundation. He has served on the following community boards Eastern Ontario Regional Lab Association, Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation, and the Shepherds of Good Hope. He was awarded the United Way Community Builder Award in 2009.

Finally, on a community engagement angle, he is involved in organizing educational events for doctors, providing interviews to radio, newspaper and TV. He is a published poet. He used to have a TV show on Roger’s community TV called Med Talks. He was awarded a Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2013.



District 4

Dr. Iram Ahmed MD, MSc, CCFP, FCFP, and ABFM Diplomate is a U.S. Board certified comprehensive family physician in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario.  Dr. Ahmed is also an Assistant Clinical Professor (Adjunct) in the Department of Family Medicine at the DeGroote School of Medicine at McMaster University.



Dr. David Barber has been an assistant professor at the Department of Family Medicine at Queen’s University since 2008. Prior to that, he spent 8 years working at a multi-specialty group in Indiana. Within the department of family medicine, he is the lead for information technology and the care of the elderly program, and is medical director at Providence Manor. His research focusses on primary care electronic medical record data, and is co-chair of the Canadian Primary Care Surveillance Network (CPCSSN) as well as the network director for the Eastern Ontario Network of CPCSSN. He lives in Kingston with his wife and 3 children.




Dr Vikesh Maraj , representing District 1, practices comprehensive family medicine in Windsor , Ontario.

He is the President of the Essex County Medical Society , and sits on the executive of the Windsor Essex Primary Care Council. He is also on the Board of Directors of the Windsor Essex Children's Aid Society.

Dr Maraj and his wife have two daughters , one at university and one in grade school.

Dr. Ali Damji is a family physician and addiction medicine physician from Mississauga. He works at the Credit Valley Family Health Team and the Halton & Mississauga Rapid Access to Addiction Medicine Clinic. He is also Division Head of Primary Care at Trillium Health Partners. He is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Family & Community Medicine. He is also an Investigator with the Institute for Better Health. He is also actively involved in leadership, serving as a member of Ontario Health's Central Region Mental Health and Addiction Advisory Table, the Ontario Medical Association Section of General & Family Practice Executive, and Board of Directors for the Foundation for Advancing Family Medicine.

He is the recipient of numerous leadership and teaching awards including most recently the MD Program Teaching Award of Excellence, The COVID Hero Award from the City of Mississauga, and the College of Family Physicians of Canada Award of Excellence. 

On a fun note, he most recently hiked Mount Kilimanjaro, the world’s tallest freestanding mountain!


District 11

Dr. Dominik Nowak is a family doctor and health leader. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Nowak's mission is to build teamwork across the health system. He is a trusted advisor to leading provincial, national, and international organizations toward a health system that is more kind, caring, and careful.

Dr. Nowak trained at McMaster University, where he specialized in family medicine and served as chief resident. He went on to finish a Master of Health Administration at the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation at the University of Toronto, and holds a Certified Health Executive designation by the Canadian College of Health Leaders. Dr. Nowak is currently a faculty member at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health and the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Toronto. He is a recipient of the College of Family Physicians of Canada Award of Excellence for his leadership in Canadian healthcare.

Outside of his professional life, you can find him most at peace on a tennis court, with his Great Dane puppy, or with family.


District 11

I completed my U of T MD in 1979 and FM Residency in 1981. I am in a group teaching practice, have provided obstetrical service for 33 years, and have FFS, FHG and not-for-profit WIC experience prior to going into a FHO.

I served on the the Board of the Coalition of Family Physicians of Ontario from 1997 to 2008 and the OMA Board from 2003 to 2014. I have been a member of the SGFP Executive since 2014.

I have served on multiple committees including Member Services, Health Policy, Education and Prevention, Physician Health Advisory, MRC Review, Forms and others.  



District 11

Dr. Marni Brooks is a Toronto based Family Physician focusing in the area of Cannabinoid Medicine. Her other clinical interests include primary care and ongoing advocacy work as Chair of two Medical Interest Groups and on the SGFP Executive at the Ontario Medical Association.  She founded the first Medical Interest Group in Cannabinoid Medicine in the country at the OMA. Dr. Brooks also created one of the first slide decks to be accredited by CCFP on Cannabinoid Medicine and Chronic Pain. Her other passion is in Addiction Medicine, an area in which she practised exclusively prior to her focus in Cannabinoid Medicine. She has recently integrated her two passions, using Cannabinoid therapy as a tool when treating patients with addiction. Other interests of Dr. Brooks include working as an Independent Medical Examiner and as an expert witness in criminal cases. Dr. Brooks is committed to educating her physician peers as well as patients and their caregivers on the benefits of cannabis for a variety of health conditions, either as sole therapy or in conjunction with other treatments

David Schieck




Dr. Darija Vujosevic has obtained Medical Doctor degree in former Yugoslavia and she graduated from University of Toronto, Department of Family Medicine in 2006. Dr. Vujosevic has been practising comprehensive primary care in Niagara as part of Niagara North Family Health Team. Dr. Vujosevic is also Lead Physician of Garden City Family Health Organization. Besides clinical work she is involved in teaching as Assistant Professor McMaster University and she also tutors family medicine residents in Mental Health and Behavioural Sciences. Dr. Vujosevic is also accomplished leader, having held numerous positions, she was President of Lincoln County Academy of Medicine, She was Chair of the Board of Niagara North FHT, she was Primary Care Clinical Lead for Ontario Health West and she holds Canadian Certified Physician Executive designation. Currently Dr. Vujosevic serves as Treasurer and Board member of Section of General and Family Practice.
